Mom & Dad Meet the In-Laws

Recap: Dinner with Parents at Biwon Restaurant

So, our parents met for the first time last night. This was the first time any of us got to experience this joyous, or rather nerve-wrecking, gathering as Sungjin and I are the first children to marry in our families. It was obvious none of knew what to do, what to wear, or what to say… and that we’d all be playing it by ear.

Personally, I played a thousand ways the dinner could go wrong in my head. I imagined one of our parents giving the other a piece of their mind, fists slamming on the table, food particles flying around, or all of the above. Sungjin kindly advised me that if it got that bad, I should just cry because everyone loves me. I refused to be on call for that. I didn’t want to look weak ;)

Fortunately, none of the above happened and the only spectacle that night was me being clumsy ol’ me. I graciously tipped over a cup of hot tea and even flipped over an empty soup bowl while playing with my chopsticks. Everyone assumed I was nervous or something, but I really wasn’t! That’s what a typical meal with me would look like.

Anyways, I’m just glad and thankful to God that everything went well. There might have been some awkward moments in the beginning, but our parents are awesome and created a lot of laughs.

My favorite moment of the night:

After a whole 2+ hours of talking and eating, Sungjin never said a PEEP! But, he finally made his debut at the last moment and busted out saying, “Jane is a badminton champion!” My dad echoed, “Yea! A champion!”

When we got in the car and I couldn’t stop laughing. I held my belly and said, “OUT OF ALL THE THINGS YOU COULD HAVE SAID THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DINNER, YOU SAY, ‘JANE IS ¬†A BADMINTON CHAMPION’?!”

Oh you bet we got a good laugh out of that one. I guess he was the most nervous out of all of us.
